Types of Domain Extensions
GENERIC TLDs—as the name suggests, generic domain extensions are used in daily life. For example, .com, .net, .org, and so on.
After 2011, ICANN started allowing companies to generate their own domain extensions. For example, .space, .fashion, etc.
SPONSORED TLDs—are used by specific entities, such as businesses, governments, etc. For example,
.edu (for educational institute)
.mil (for military)
.museum (for museum)
COUNTRY CODE TLDs—they represent specific country codes. This domain extension has its own rules. These extensions are restrictions on organizations in the country.
.ca (Canada)
.ja (Japan)
.au (Australia)
